With the new connection between Regensburg and Verona via the Brenner Pass, Helrom is expanding its route network and offering a sustainable alternative for freight transport across the Alps. Due to the high traffic load on the Brenner route, there is a great need for new transport solutions. The new Helrom connec- tion offers an important building block for sustainable and reliable transalpine freight transport.

The new route will start on October 24 and will allow CO₂ emissions to be reduced by 90 percent.

Frankfurt, 21. October 2024 – The new connection between Regensburg and Verona via the Brenner Pass is a significant step in the expansion of the Helrom network and the company’s first entry into this impor- tant European transport axis. The route covers a length of 560 km and currently offers shippers and freight forwarders four departures per week in each direction. From 2025, the departure times and days are to be further extended with additional trips. With fast transit and an extremely reliable service at road level, Helrom offers an efficient alternative to road transport by truck—even for non-craneable trailers and time-critical goods.

“With the new connection via the Brenner Pass, we are opening up new opportunities for freight transport and making a contribution to reducing CO₂ emissions and reducing the strain on the road infrastructure,” explains Roman Noack, founder and CEO of Helrom. “Our terminal-free technology for barrier-free intermodal transport enables freight forwarders and shippers to start transporting trailers by rail without additional investment. This makes freight transport accessible to everyone—an important step towards the democratization of rail transport.”

Sustainable transport solution in times of growing challenges

The planned renovation of the Lueg Bridge and the associated restrictions for truck traffic from January 2025 make the need for new transport options on the Brenner route particularly clear. In addition, there are existing restrictions such as the ban on night-time driv- ing and strict emission standards, which do not play a role for intermodal rail transport on the Helrom route. Helrom’s transport concept helps to relieve the road connection and improve traffic flow. “An innovative intermodal concept such as Helrom offers shippers and freight forwarders an additional solution to master the challenges on the Brenner route”, explains Noack.

Flexibility and low entry barriers for companies

The Helrom concept makes it possible to load all types of truck semi-trailers without special terminals. With the patented freight wagon technology, even non- craneable trailers can be easily loaded onto the rails. This allows freight forwarders to benefit directly from the advantages of intermodal transport without having to invest in new equipment—an attractive option for small and medium-sized companies too. The barrier-free approach enables easy access to truck-rail transport and thus expands the opportunities for companies to make their logistics more sustainable.
