866,000 guests visited the Jungfraujoch
The Jungfrau Railway Group can look back on a successful year. For the first time, over 850,000 guests travelled to Europe's highest-altitude railway station. Excursion traffic to the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe continued to reap the benefits of the increasing demand from Asia. In 2014, 866,000 persons visited the Jungfraujoch, an increase of 5.2% on the previous year, the best result in the history of the Jungfrau Railway. The continued intensive cultivation of the Asian market and strengthening of the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe brand has once again borne fruit.
Warm temperatures and little snow meant that the 2014/2015 winter season had a difficult start. Thanks to efficient snow-making systems however, Jungfrau Railways were able to put several of their Kleine Scheidegg ski facilities into operation from mid-December 2014 and provide good piste conditions. The Jungfrau Ski Region is a cooperative product in which the Jungfrau Railway Group holds an over 60% share. The Jungfrau Ski Region recorded 156,000 skier visits from the beginning of the season up to 2 January 2015, a reduction of -25.7% in comparison to the same period last year.
The majority of the other rail and cableways in the group were able to achieve pleasing frequencies in comparison to the previous year. The Harder Railway once again achieved a significant passenger record with a plus of 15.5%. The Lauterbrunnen-Mürren Rail & Cableway achieved a 7.4% increase in passenger numbers. The decreasing number of winter-sport participants meant that the First Aerial Cableway transported 7.2% fewer guests in comparison to 2013.
