Basel, 8 March 2017: Straumann has signed two distribution agreements to supply 3Shape dental scanner solutions and Rapid Shape 3D-printers to dental practices and laboratories around the world as part of Straumann’s validated digital workflow for tooth replacement. The Group will present both systems at the world’s largest Dental Trade Exhibition, the International Dental Show, which opens on 21 March in Cologne.

Intraoral scanning is a convenient modern alternative to unpleasant conventional methods of taking impressions of the patient’s teeth. 3Shape’s TRIOS^® 3 range of intraoral scanners is widely recognized as industry-leading technology, offering accurate, ultra-fast, powderless scanning. In addition to the full-color package, which includes digital shade measurement and an integrated intraoral camera, an upgradable lower-priced monochrome version is also available. The combination of 3Shape TRIOS 3 and Straumann’s compact milling machine made by Amann Girrbach enables the Group to offer a top quality chairside solution for producing dental prosthetics in the practice.

Rapid Shape 3D printers enable dental labs to produce temporary prosthetic restorations, models and drill templates in certified precision for guided surgery, very quickly and efficiently. Further applications, including partial frameworks, bite splints and ortho models, can also be produced. The compact, reliable printers are simple and intuitive to operate and can print drill templates or temporaries in approximately 16 minutes. Another key advantage is the open system approach, which allows customers to choose from a wide variety of certified materials from multiple suppliers. Straumann will sell the printers under its own brand, seamlessly connected into its CARES digital workflow.

Both distribution agreements are non-exclusive. The agreement with Rapid Shape is worldwide, while the agreement with 3Shape covers Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Germany, Holland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, with other countries expected to follow¹. The Straumann Group already began selling TRIOS 3 at the CIOSP trade show in Brazil earlier in the year.

3Shape complements Straumann’s current range of scanners and software solutions, which are developed, and co-marketed by the Group’s global partner Dental Wings. They offer dental professionals an open platform with connectivity and a seamless, validated workflow – from planning the surgery to producing the final restoration. Straumann holds a majority stake in Dental Wings and is firmly committed to continuing the success of their longstanding partnership.

Collaborating with 3Shape enables the Group to offer more choices and price options. Furthermore, the combination of TRIOS^® 3 with Straumann’s milling solutions offers an extremely competitive and attractive alternative to the lab and chairside solutions that are currently on the market.
