Leclanché announces a major customer win for solar street lighting solutions in Saudi Arabia and a major new Battery order for Automatic Guided Vehicles

- Innovative battery pack development and supply for solar street lighting solutions to Octo Energy in Saudi Arabia, in a strategic partnership with Scotia A/S, designer and manufacturer of the Scotia Monopole 2.0 system.

- This battery module designed by Leclanché represents the world's first lithium-ion titanate battery based system for this application.

- Large Battery order for Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGV's) from a world-known, household name brand leader.

- Leclanché technology chosen for its environmentally friendly chemistry, ultra-fast charge capability and remote management solution.

Yverdon-les-Bains (Switzerland), 31 August 2015 - Leclanché today announced two major wins in its Speciality Battery Systems Business Unit. These wins will reinvigorate growth in this business unit by broadening its customer base. In addition to Leclanché's continued focus on delivering its large industrial-scale storage systems based on in-house manufacturing of both power-intensive and high energy density cells, these wins represent smaller capacity, but a large serial storage systems deployment opportunity for the Company.

Denmark based and long term Leclanché partner Scotia has designed and developed a state-of-the-art lighting mast with PV solar panels fully integrated in the surface of the mast; LED lighting on the top; and Smart Control and Battery Pack all situated inside the mast. Leclanché has already delivered 200 battery modules for these off-grid street lighting masts for deployment in Saudi Arabia.

This battery module, designed and developed in Yverdon-les-Bains (Switzerland) by Leclanché, represents the world's first lithium-ion titanate battery based system for this application. The system is capable of working in harsh environments with ambient temperatures ranging from -20 C to 55 C, thanks to the high performance characteristics of Leclanché LTO cells. Leclanché's battery system design is fully modular and capable of delivering up to 2 days of independent operation without additional charging.
Leclanché's Belgium unit, formed as a result of the recent acquisition of Trineuron, has also won a major order for battery storage systems in the field of AGV's. The customer opted for Leclanché technology due to its environmentally friendly chemistry in comparison to other batteries containing heavy metals such as cadmium or lead. In addition the ultra-fast charge capability increases the efficiency of the vehicle fleet compared to other technologies. The project has also been awarded to Leclanché for its remote management solution offering high reliability, scalability of the solution, round-trip electrical efficiency and safety.

Anil Srivastava, CEO of Leclanché, commented: "These customer wins will boost growth in the Speciality Battery Systems Business Unit by broadening its customer base. The repeat business and serial deployment opportunities for such battery systems are particularly helpful in generating good cash flow for the company in due course".

About Leclanché
Leclanché, which is listed on the Swiss stock exchange (SIX:LECN), has a wide range of storage products for homes, small offices, large industries, electricity grids, hybridization for mass transport systems like fleet of buses, trams etc. Established in 1909 Leclanché has been a reliable partner for battery storage technologies. Founded in the tradition of Georges Leclanché, the inventor of the dry cell battery, Leclanché today has a rich portfolio of Energy Storage Systems that include Specialized Customer-specific Battery Systems to industry leading lithium-ion solutions. Through the integration of a spin-off of the German Fraunhofer Institute in 2006 the company evolved from a traditional battery producer into one of the first developers and manufacturers of lithium-ion cells in Europe. Leclanché's Storage Solutions are optimized for various applications, in particular for the integration of renewable energy, diesel fuel reduction, electricity grid-connected ancillary services, peak power shaving for heavy industries but also for heavy duty transportation in buses, trams, trains or maritime vessels. Leclanché products are characterized by a very high cycle stability (both for cells with titanate and graphite anode) and long service life. Thanks to our patented separator technology, which is a core element of lithium ion batteries, Leclanché is able to make cells with very good safety characteristics in a highly automated production process. Leclanché operates a fully automated plant for the production of large format lithium-ion cells at an annual maximum capacity of up to one million cells and is capable of running multiple chemistries through production for different cell characteristics. In addition, Leclanché offers a number of specialized battery systems through its Portable Business Unit, such as customer-specific energy storage systems for defense and medical applications. Leclanché also distributes primary and secondary batteries and accessories of other producers.
