Straumann Group presents numerous innovations at the 37th International Dental Show in Cologne

Straumann Group presents numerous innovations at the 37th International Dental Show in Cologne

Cologne, 22 March 2017: At the world’s largest dental show, the biennial IDS, the Straumann Group is launching a large number of new products and solutions in addition to presenting a stream of innovations aimed at both the premium and non-premium tooth-replacement markets.

Straumann has become a global group of international brands and partners, which combine to provide complete tooth replacement solutions across continents, customer groups and price segments. Under its new ‘Straumann Group’ overarching brand, the company is using several stands at the IDS to present its Straumann, Neodent and Medentika brands. In addition to product and service exhibits, the largest stand features a remarkable ‘Innovation Cube’, which takes visitors on a 3D virtual journey into the future of implant dentistry. Furthermore, to demonstrate its suite of digital solutions, Straumann is using a huge truck, which is currently touring Europe and is parked nearby in the same exhibition hall.

Since the last IDS, the Group has made strong progress with its strategy to become the global total solution provider in tooth replacement and is introducing a stream of new products and solutions, whose availability in some markets is subject to regulatory approvals. The key novelties are highlighted below.

PREMIUM RANGE

NEW IMPLANT SOLUTIONS

Straumann® BLT 2.9 mm – the ‘SmallOne’

Using the outstanding mechanical strength of its Roxolid® material together with the fast-healing SLActive® surface, Straumann has succeeded in engineering a strong, reliable bone-level implant with a very small diameter of just 2.9 mm. This is a significant advantage for treating cases where bone and/or space are very limited. Small-diameter implants can help to avoid bone-graft procedures and can make implant treatment possible for patients who do not have sufficient bone to support larger conventional implants.

The prosthetic components for SmallOne have a unique oval design that closely matches the anatomy of teeth. This provides space for the surrounding soft tissue and helps to achieve pleasing esthetic results at the front of the mouth.

Straumann® PURE two-piece ceramic implants

Straumann introduced its first ceramic implant – with a monotype design – three years ago, having developed a special ceramic material as well as production and testing methods to ensure high reliability. Encouraged by excellent clinical results with the monotype, the company has overcome a number of mechanical hurdles and has developed a two-piece screw-retained solution that is easier to place than a monotype and more flexible to restore. Like Straumann’s monotype versions, it has a highly esthetic, tooth-like appearance and features the ZLA® surface for enhanced osseointegration.

NEW PROSTHETIC SOLUTIONS

Straumann® angled solution systems

In certain situations a screw-retained prosthetic option is only possible if the retaining screw can be angulated, which presents significant technical challenges. Straumann has successfully developed a method for tilting the screw channel by up to 25° in any direction to help achieve the best functional and esthetic outcome. At the same time, the diameter of the screw channel has been kept as small as possible. A key to this solution is an angulated self-retaining screwdriver, which is a masterpiece in precision.

Straumann® Variobase®

Straumann has made a number of additions to its family of Variobase abutments, which have become very popular thanks to their efficiency, reliability and versatility. Variobases can be used for single implants right up to full-arch restorations, in straightforward and esthetic cases, and for cemented or screw-retained solutions. They are also suitable for digital as well as conventional workflows.

Straumann® CARES® abutment CoCr

Straumann has added a further material option to its customized abutment range. Coron® is a high-quality cobalt-chrome alloy that can be veneered directly with standard porcelain, making it reliable, flexible, efficient and useful for highly-esthetic restorations.

Straumann® n!ce® fully-crystallized glass-ceramic

n!ce is an innovative, proprietary, glass-ceramic material developed and manufactured by Straumann. In addition to its highly esthetic tooth-like translucence, n!ce saves considerable time and effort because it is fully-crystallized. This means that the restoration can be ground and polished for a precisefit with very smooth margins, with no additional firing. n!ce is available in milling blocks for single-tooth CADCAM restorations, including inlays, onlays, veneers, full/partial crowns, and crowns on hybrid implant abutments.

etkon® iDent

Today’s dental professionals need to provide prosthetic components for a variety of implant systems. etkon iDent is Straumann’s new brand of prosthetic components that are compatible with other major implant systems. Offering Straumann flexibility, precision, reliability, lifetime guarantee and validated digital workflow. etkon iDent solutions cover a broad range of implant systems including Nobel Biocare®, BIOMET 3i®, Zimmer® Dental, MIS®, BioHorizons® and DENTSPLY® Implants.

EDENTULOUS SOLUTIONS

More than 35 million people in the US alone are fully edentulous. 90% use simple, unanchored dentures. These statistics underline the need and opportunity for implant anchored tooth replacement solutions.

Straumann has extended its broad range of edentulous solutions to accommodate the expectations, financial means, and clinical situation of patients. The latest additions include Straumann Pro Arch solutions for fixed full-arch restorations using tissue level implants and the Straumann Novaloc® Retentive System for removable implant-borne hybrid dentures.

The Novaloc system features an innovative wear-resistant abutment coating, straight and angled abutments with various heights, and durable PEEK retention matrices – all of which result in low maintenance and high patient comfort.

A STRONG CONTENDER IN DIGITAL DENTISTRY

Straumann’s portfolio of digital solutions has expanded rapidly with the addition of state-of-the-art intraoral scanners, milling machines and 3D printers – all of which are Straumann-branded, fully integrated into the company’s validated workflow, and available from a single source with Straumann service and support.

NEW RANGE OF INTRA-ORAL SCANNERS

Straumann® CARES® portable intraoral scanner

This is a small portable version of the scanner introduced by Straumann and Dental Wings last year. It will be available starting in April and has been developed for practices with limited space or where the scanner has to be moved frequently from one operating room to another.

Straumann® CARES® intra-oral scanner powder-free hand piece

Straumann/Dental Wings intra-oral scanners feature an exceptionally small hand piece that facilitates handling and improves patient comfort. A new version offering powder-free scanning is due to launch around mid-year and is compatible with standard and portable CARES intra-oral scanners.

Straumann branded TRIOS® 3 scanners

Thanks to its distribution agreement with 3Shape, Straumann now offers industry-leading TRIOS 3 intra-oral scanners as part of its range of digital solutions. Accurate and ultra-fast, the TRIOS 3 can scan teeth without spraying or powdering. The full-colour version can measure tooth shades digitally and incorporates an intraoral camera. A lower-priced monochrome model is available, which can be upgraded to the full-colour specification. ‘Pod’ versions of both models are available as flexible portable alternatives to the trolley/cart mounted scanners.

COMPREHENSIVE MILLING SOLUTIONS

Though its partnership with Amman Girrbach, Straumann offers a broad range of state-of-the-art milling machines for labs and dental practices, complementing its popular international central milling service.

Straumann® CARES® C series

The latest addition is a compact 4-axis chairside milling machine for producing prosthetics in the dental practice. This easy-to-use high-precision machine operates with wet milling and grinding and is highly efficient, reducing grinding times by up to 60%. It can process glass ceramics and hybrid materials for a wide range of indications and, combined with the TRIOS 3 scanner and n!ce glass ceramic, it offers a top-of-the-range chairside solution.

Straumann® CARES® D series

The D series 5-axis dry milling machine offers dental labs a powerful, flexible and efficient in-house solution for manufacturing prosthetics for a wide range of indications. It can process all dry millable materials (zirconia, PMMA, wax, sintron, hybrid ceramics etc).

3D PRINTING

Straumann® P series 3

Thanks to its partnership with Rapid Shape, the Group can now offer Straumann branded 3D printers, capable of producing temporary prosthetic restorations, partial frameworks, bite splints and models quickly, efficiently and from a wide choice of certified materials from multiple suppliers. The compact machines also print drill templates in certified precision for guided surgery.

ENABLEMENT & EDUCATION

Straumann® Smart – a new holistic education solution

This year the Group is launching the Straumann® Smart – a new holistic education solution to help dental professionals (GPs, referring dentists, young professionals and female dentists) step into implant dentistry with confidence. This is a unique blended learning approach that combines clinical education and product training in the classroom and online – making it convenient for dentists to learn without interrupting their business. Mentoring is provided by experienced implantologists, and Straumann has developed a simple product portfolio specifically to help dentists start with confidence. Straumann Smart also helps participants to grow their business quickly and confidently.

NON-PREMIUM SOLUTIONS

To address customer needs for attractively-priced high quality tooth replacement solutions the Group has invested in leading brands like Neodent and Medentika, whose international expansion is driven through the Instradent business platform. As a result, the Group has become the world’s third largest producer of non-premium implants.

Neodent digital solutions

Neodent has established a digital workflow with a broad range of treatment and restorative options. For single-unit restorations, the NeodentFIT system offers in-lab and central milling solutions and there is a Neodent titanium base for CEREC® in-house milling applications. Multi-unit restorations can be produced centrally through the Group’s partner Createch and in-house with a new Zirkonzahn milling machine. In addition, customers can use open-source milling options offered by Dental Wings, exocad, 3shape and other partners.

Neodent ceramic implant

Neodent also unveiled an innovative two-piece ceramic implant, which is planned for launch in 2018. Differentiated by its bone-level tapered design, screw-retained ceramic abutment and single/multi-unit applications, it will be made by ceramic injection moulding and supplied through maxon dental, the new joint venture between Straumann and maxon motor.

Medentika© ProCone

Medentika has collaborated with a number of leading experts to produce an enhanced implant design that will appeal to users of one of the leading implants sold in Germany. Taking proven concepts to the next level, the ProCone implant is very attractively priced and its connection is compatible with Medentika’s optimized C-Series.

Collaboration with Zirkonzahn for highly esthetic affordable edentulous solutions

Instradent announced that it is working together with Zirkonzahn to offer highly esthetic affordable treatment concepts for edentulous patients in certain countries. The key is a combination of simplified workflows and components, e.g. cost effective Neodent tapered implants and angulated abutments, which are ideal for accelerated full-arch tooth replacements fixed on four implants. Zirkonzahn supplies the in-house milling equipment as part of a comprehensive package.

All of the aforementioned new products and solutions are on display at the IDS at the various Straumann Group exhibition stands in Hall 4.2. A media kit with pictures and additional information is available at www.straumann.com/presskit-ids2017.
